Chapter Programs Continued
Each year the Zeta Psi Lambda Chapter recognizes an exemplary high school graduate for their accomplishments with a $2,000 scholarship, given in the name of the late Brother Dr. Ulric Pryce. Brother Dr. Pryce is the father of Brother Frank Pryce, Zeta Psi Lambda Chapter charter member. The scholarship is one of the most fulfilling programs the chapter conducts. High school students in the Lake Charles area apply and applications are evaluated by the Chapter’s Education Foundation Committee. One recipient is chosen and honored by the chapter. Each year’s scholarship recipient keeps in touch with the chapter throughout their collegiate experience.
Being involved with the Fraternity on the state, regional, and national levels is a high priority for the Zeta Psi Lambda Chapter. The Chapter registers and sends delegates to all Fraternity Conventions which are held annually (state, regional, and national). A number of Brothers in the Chapter serve on state and regional committees. The Zeta Psi Lambda Chapter includes the 2010 Louisiana District Brother of the Year, Brother Kedrick Nicholas, and the 2010 Espirit de Fratenite’ Award Winner (Louisiana), Brother Johnny Thomas. Members of the chapter take pride in being connected to the fraternity’s business on higher than the chapter level.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was founded on December 4, 1906. Each year on the founding date the Zeta Psi Lambda and Theta Theta Chapters conduct a banquet dinner for Brothers of each chapter and their families. At the dinner, history of the Fraternity and Chapters is reflected upon and remembered. The dinner also serves as the yearly awards banquet for each chapter. Several awards are given to Brothers of each chapter including, Brother of the Year, Alpha Service Award, and more. A member of the local community is recognized each year for outstanding service in the scope of Alpha Phi Alpha’s mission. A guest Brother normally serves as the keynote speaker.
