Chapter Programs Continued
Quarterly during the year, the Brothers of the Zeta Psi Lambda Chapter visit Landmark Nursing Home in Lake Charles, LA. During the visits the Chapter conducts Bingo games for the residents. All prizes for the Bingo games are sponsored by the Chapter. 2011 will mark the third consecutive year the chapter has conducted the program at Landmark Nursing Home. Brothers truly enjoy fellowshipping with the residents and they’re always awaiting our next visit.
The Zeta Psi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha joined the “Relay For Life” program in 2010. The relay took place May 14, 2010 at the Lake Charles Civic Center. The event represents a culmination of fundraising efforts by several teams that sign up to raise money for the American Cancer Society leading up to the event. Fundraising efforts for Alpha Phi Alpha (Lake Charles) were combined between the Theta Theta Chapter at McNeese and the Zeta Psi Lambda Alumni Chapter. The Chapters collectively were able to raise over $500 for the American Cancer Society. During the “Relay For Life” program each fundraising team sets up a booth to promote cancer awareness. In our first showing, over 25 Brothers were present. Alpha Phi Alpha was the only Greek organization in Lake Charles to have a team in the “Relay for Life”.
March of Dimes is a national partner of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The Zeta Psi Lambda Chapter is very involved with the program’s efforts in Lake Charles, LA. Brother Walter Guidry, Chapter Vice President serves as a member of the advisory council for the Lake Charles march. The Zeta Psi Lambda Chapter, with the assistance of the Theta Theta Chapter at McNeese raises money for the march leading up to day of the walk. In 2010 Alpha Phi Alpha raised/donated over $400 to the March of Dimes. On the day of the walk, the Chapter organizes directional signage and serves refreshments to walk participants.
