Pryce Street Naming Committee

In 2009, Zeta Psi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha launched a community effort to have Lawrence Street re-named Pryce Street. This effort was initiated by Brother Andrew Young as he spoke at the centennial celebration of the Pryce Pharmacy. Brother Young was the nephew of Brother Dr. Ulric Pryce.
Zeta Psi Lambda initiated the assistance of 100 Black Men of Lake Charles and the Lake Charles North Kiwanis Club to assist in this community effort. City Council Member Brother Marshall Semien was especially helpful in this effort. The street was officially renamed January 20, 2010.
Recently (March 2010), Zeta Psi Lambda hosted an un-veiling of street markers to honor the re-naming of Lawrence Street to Pryce Street. Brother Frank Y. Pryce and his wife, Delores assisted Mayor Randy Roach in un-veiling markers of the Pryce Street.

Lake Charles, LA Black Heritage Festival

The Zeta Psi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha has participated in the Lake Charles Black Heritage Festival for over five consecutive years. Brothers operate a booth with the Theta Theta Chapter of McNeese State University. During the festival Brothers issue information pertaining to chapter programs including the Dr. Ulric Pryce Memorial Scholarship and Voteless People is a Hopeless People. Voter registrations are collected at the event as well. The program offers an opportunity for the chapter to visible to the local community.

Mother's Day Basket

The Zeta Psi Lambda Chapter sponsors a Mother’s Day program yearly in the local community. The chapter honors diligent mothers who are not able to be recognized by their children or family due to uncontrollable circumstances. Recipients are nominated by friends or family to receive a basket and balloons presented by Brothers of the chapter. Brothers deliver baskets to the homes of the nominees on the Saturday morning prior to Mother’s Day. The mothers are thanked for their efforts and encouraged to continue serving our community through their exemplary parenthood.
