Zeta Psi Lambda
History
In 1957, seven distinguished Alpha men, guided by the desire for brotherhood, joined together in Lake Charles, La, to form a graduate chapter which was chartered as the Zeta Psi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Psi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. The seven men were: *Dr.Leonard Breda, *Warren Combre, Melvin L. Guice, *Dr. Murray Martin, Frank Y. Pryce,
L. Joseph Sanford, Jr. and *Dr. Elliott Robertson. Chartering ceremonies were conducted at W.O. Boston High School in the classroom of Mr. Melvin Guice.
The chapter was chartered in accordance with the ideals established by the seven founders of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Participation in state, district, regional, and national conventions by chapter members serves as an avenue through which the chapter aligns itself with programs and activities recognized by alpha worldwide.
In the past years, the chapter has hosted several state, district, and regional coventions and was honored as National Alumni Chapter of the Year in 1985. The chapter has produced three "Regional Alumni Brothers of the Year" and two were named "National Alumni Brother of the Year". The 30th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is a member of Zeta Psi Lambda.
Zeta Psi Lambda has a life membership in the NAACP and is a sponsor/ supporter of teen pregnancy prevention programs, scouting programs, Big Brothers/Big Sister, and the March of Dimes. The Ulric W. Pryce Memorial Scholarship Foundation provides $2,000 awards to outstanding high school graduates annual. Zeta Psi Lambda members are active in religious, professional, and community service organizations.
